2026 Hyundai Elantra compact sedan at Dalton Hyundai National City
2026 Elantra for sale

A 2026 Elantra, ready to drive home.

The 2026 Hyundai Elantra is Hyundai's compact sedan. Here's who actually buys it from us at 3150 National City Blvd, just off I-5. Commuters trading in a car with 150,000 hard miles. First-time buyers moving up from something borrowed. Repeat customers on their second or third Hyundai.

What they share is a real daily drive, so this page is about how the Elantra holds up on it, not a features list you'll find on any dealer's site.

The 2026 Elantra, at a glance

The commuter sedan built for this drive.

On our lot in National City, the Elantra shopper is almost always one of three people:

  • A South Bay commuter running the I-5 or I-805 every day.
  • A first-time buyer stepping up from an older car.
  • Someone trading down from a truck they no longer need.

That shapes how we talk about the Elantra: we lead with the daily-drive math.

A couple walking past a red Hyundai Elantra outside a retro record store, the kind of everyday-life setting the Elantra fits into
The Elantra fits the everyday: the daily drives, the errands, the weekend run for records.

We're seven miles from downtown San Diego and four north of the Chula Vista shopping corridor, and a lot of our buyers cover 25 to 50 freeway miles a day. At that mileage, real-world mpg and seat comfort at hour two matter more than a horsepower number, so that's where we start.

We verified these against the EPA's own source (fueleconomy.gov): the gas Elantra runs low-to-mid 30s city and into the 40s highway depending on trim, and the Hybrid climbs higher still.

When you're sitting in National City Blvd traffic at 5 p.m. or hauling up the 805 toward Kearny Mesa, that gap between 33 and 50 mpg is real money over a year.

To see exactly what's on the lot today, which trims are in stock, which colors, and how each is equipped, check our live 2026 Elantra inventory.

If there's a specific trim or color you want, call ahead and we'll tell you what's actually on the ground.

Trims and how they actually differ

Five trims, and how we describe them on the lot.

The 2026 Elantra runs from a value base trim up through the sport-tuned N Line and full-performance Elantra N, with a Hybrid in the middle. Here's how we describe the lineup to people on our lot — the day-to-day differences aren't always the ones marketing leads with.

Trim How we describe it
SEThe commuter's trim The one most San Diego buyers cross-shop against a Civic or Corolla. It covers the basics well: Hyundai's standard driver-assistance suite, a usable touchscreen, and the efficient base four-cylinder. If your priority is a dependable daily that sips gas on the 5, start here.
SELThe practical step up You pick up creature comforts that make a long commute nicer: better seating surfaces, more convenience tech, available packages. For most of our compact-sedan shoppers, this is the sweet spot.
Elantra HybridThe mileage play If you're putting serious freeway miles on, the Hybrid's payback math gets interesting fast. We walk buyers through the actual number: at San Diego County gas prices, the per-gallon savings against the gas SE can recover the price difference inside a typical ownership window for high-mileage drivers. We'll run that math with you honestly — if you only drive 6,000 miles a year, we'll tell you the gas car is the smarter buy.
N LineThe enthusiast-curious trim Sportier suspension, a turbocharged engine, and styling that looks the part without committing to the full N.
Elantra NThe real performance car A genuine track-capable compact. This is a different animal from the SE, and a different buyer.

Trim availability changes weekly as transports arrive and units sell. We don't list which ones are in stock here because it would be wrong by the time you read it. Check our website for the live list, or contact us and we'll check the lot for you.

A note on how we compare trims with people

When a shopper is torn between the SEL and the Hybrid, we'll sit down and put their real annual mileage into the math.

Plug in 15,000 freeway miles a year against San Diego County pump prices (well above the national average for years) and the Hybrid's savings look very different than they would in a cheap-gas state.

Run it yourself: divide the Hybrid's price premium over the gas SE by your yearly fuel savings (annual miles, split across the two EPA mpg figures, times the local price per gallon). That's your payback in years. Drive a lot of freeway miles and the answer often lands inside a normal ownership window; drive a little and it doesn't. We'll pull the live Elantra and Elantra Hybrid pricing from our current inventory and run your actual numbers on a test drive, rather than quote a figure here that shifts with pump prices and incentives. If leasing fits better, current Elantra Hybrid lease examples from the Getaway event are on our Hyundai lease deals page.

We don't push the upsell; we just show the numbers and let them decide. Half the time the SEL wins. That's fine by us.

Two short walkthroughs from our own team.

One of our team members shot both of these on our National City showroom floor, walking through the exact same features we cover with every buyer at delivery, not stock manufacturer clips.

If you've read our reviews, one line comes up again and again: some version of "they walked me through the car before I drove off." Watch it before you make the drive in.

Safety: what the ratings actually say

Look it up at the source.

When a parent is cross-shopping the Elantra for a teen driver, and in National City that's a common Saturday conversation, we start in the car, not with numbers. We have them try the Hyundai SmartSense features in the lot before we say a word about ratings. Forward collision-avoidance, lane-keeping, blind-spot alerts.

We'd rather a nervous parent feel the car intervene at 5 mph in our lot than read a star count on a spec sheet. Then, for the ratings themselves, we point buyers to two independent bodies instead of to our own marketing.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (nhtsa.gov) runs the federal 5-Star Safety Ratings program; you can look up the specific 2026 Elantra body style and see the crash-test scores yourself. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (iihs.org) runs a separate, tougher battery of crashworthiness and headlight tests and awards its TOP SAFETY PICK designations to vehicles that clear the bar.

Named a 2026 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK

The 2026 Elantra earned the TOP SAFETY PICK award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (excludes the Elantra N). Confirm the current award and the exact result for your trim at iihs.org.

Recent Elantra generations have done well in both programs, but ratings can vary by model year and by which equipment is installed. Before we posted this page, our sales team pulled the current 2026 Elantra listing on the NHTSA database and confirmed the program structure. We tell buyers to verify the exact result for the trim they're considering, rather than assume last year's score carries over.

Bring it up on your test drive and we'll pull the rating up with you on the spot.

What ownership looks like here

The years after you sign.

The years after you sign are what bring buyers back for the next Hyundai. A few things about ownership through our store are worth knowing.

  • The Dalton VIP Advantage Program. Our loyalty program pays you back for servicing where you bought: you earn 20% back in rewards on each service transaction (5% toward your next service, 5% toward tires, 10% toward your next vehicle), which adds up to over $1,500 in savings over the life of the car. It's the reason a lot of our Elantra buyers come back to us for maintenance year after year. The tiers are below.
  • Complimentary In-Drive Alignment Check and Tire Check every visit. Every time your Elantra comes in, our service team checks alignment and tire condition at no charge. That's not a throwaway perk in San Diego County. The potholes on the older stretches of National City Blvd and the 805 on-ramps are hard on alignment, and a car that's pulling even slightly will chew through a set of tires and quietly drop your fuel economy. Catching it early is cheaper than replacing tires twice.
  • One roof, one team. Our service and parts departments are on-site at the same National City location, so the people who sell you the Elantra are the same store you'll come back to for an oil change, a recall, or a warranty question. Our parts counter Contact us and service drive Contact us are open six days a week.

A practical note on maintenance intervals: Hyundai's recommended service schedule for the Elantra is published in the owner's manual and at the brand's own site, and we follow it to the letter to protect your warranty. We'll set you up with the right cadence, typically oil-and-filter and a multi-point inspection at the manufacturer's stated interval. The complimentary alignment and tire check rides along with every one of those visits.

One more thing worth knowing about Southern California ownership specifically: California is a smog state, and a compact gas Elantra will eventually need biennial smog certification to register. The Hybrid and any EV-adjacent buyers are on a different schedule.

We mention it because new buyers often forget the registration calendar is a thing, and because our service drive can handle the maintenance side of keeping a car compliant. We'd rather flag it now than have you surprised at renewal.

What most Elantra shoppers get wrong

The most common mistake we see.

The most common mistake we see is over-buying the trim. People walk in set on the N Line because it photographs well. Then, on the test drive, they realize the firmer sport suspension is busier than they want for a 40-mile commute on rough San Diego pavement.

If your real driving is freeway miles and the occasional Costco run, the SEL or the Hybrid will make you happier every single day than the sportier trim will. And you'll spend less.

The flip side is just as true. If you genuinely love driving and you've been eyeing the Elantra N, don't let anyone talk you into the SE to "save money." You'll be bored in a week.

The right move is to be honest about how you actually drive. We'd rather have that conversation up front than sell you the wrong car and lose you as a repeat customer.

How buying an Elantra here works

From search to keys, no runaround.

No theater, no runaround. Here's the path from search to keys:

  1. Check inventory online. See which 2026 Elantra trims and colors are in stock in our 2026 Elantra inventory.
  2. Come in for a test drive. Visit during sales hours, or contact us to hold a specific Elantra so it's ready when you arrive.
  3. Work with a team that guides at your pace. We'll walk you through trims, equipment, financing options, and next steps as fast or slow as you want to go.

One tip from our side of the desk. Before you come in, check a neutral valuation source like Edmunds or Kelley Blue Book. That way you walk in with a sense of fair market value for both the Elantra and any trade-in you're bringing. We'd rather you arrive informed. It makes the whole conversation faster and more honest.

On financing, come in with your own homework done. If you've already got a pre-approval from your bank or credit union, bring it. We'll run the real numbers against whatever rate you walk in with and put our finance offers right next to it, so you can see the difference in plain dollars.

Some buyers find our financing beats their pre-approval. Some keep their own. Either way, you leave knowing you compared, and we'd rather you do that than take our word for it.

We won't promise a lower rate sight unseen. What we will promise is that you'll see both numbers before you sign.

Prefer to buy online?

Buy your Elantra 100% online with our Express Store.

A lot of our buyers do the whole deal from their phone on a lunch break, then drive down National City Blvd once, just to pick the car up. That's what the Express Store is for. You can shop, price, value your trade, and finish financing 100% online, with instant upfront pricing on every vehicle, and only come in for the keys.

If you'd rather split the difference and start online, then finish in person, that works too. Nothing about buying online locks you out of a test drive first.

It comes with our Upfront Pricing Guarantee: every detail of your purchase is shown before you commit to anything, which is the online version of the no-pressure walk our reviews keep mentioning. The steps below are how it actually flows for an Elantra buyer:

The store behind the sale

An established Hyundai dealership in National City.

Dalton Hyundai National City, previously Frank Hyundai, holds a 4.3-star rating across roughly 2,590 Google reviews. One from May 2026:

"Smoothest car buying experience from start to finish. Everyone was so friendly and helpful and not at all pushy."

Marisa K. · 5-star Google review · May 2026
The Dalton Hyundai National City dealership building and lot, with the Hyundai sign and service entrance
Our store on National City Blvd. Sales, service, and parts are all here at the same address you can drive to and check out for yourself.

Many of our Elantra buyers go back years with us, some to when the sign still said Frank Hyundai, and they return for the next car and the one after that. When someone is on their fourth or fifth purchase from the same store, over more than a decade, that is the clearest signal of how we run the floor: guided, never pushed.

Our leadership is on-site and accountable. Cedric Butler runs the store as General Manager, Rick Griffin is our Parts & Service Director, and our sales managers are out on the floor. Sales, service, and parts are all under one roof here in National City, and the integrity and humility we publish on our About page come down to two habits: we stay honest when a car isn't the right fit, and we listen when a customer knows a spec better than we do.

After the sale, you can reach us through our website or by phone.

Frequently asked

Questions we hear most.

Is the 2026 Elantra available at Dalton Hyundai National City?

We stock new 2026 Hyundai Elantras, with availability changing as units arrive. Check current inventory at our 2026 Elantra inventory or contact us for what's on the lot today.

Which 2026 Elantra trim is best for a San Diego commute?

For most freeway commuters, we steer people toward the SEL for comfort or the Elantra Hybrid for maximum fuel savings. At San Diego County gas prices, the Hybrid's mileage advantage adds up quickly for high-mileage drivers. If you genuinely enjoy driving, the N Line or Elantra N are the enthusiast picks. We'll run the honest math with you on a test drive.

How fuel-efficient is the 2026 Elantra?

The gas Elantra lands in the low-to-mid 30s city and into the 40s highway on EPA estimates (see fueleconomy.gov), with the Elantra Hybrid rated higher. Exact figures vary by trim, so confirm the specific number for the trim you're considering.

How does the 2026 Elantra rate on safety?

Look it up at the source: NHTSA (nhtsa.gov) publishes federal 5-Star crash ratings, and IIHS (iihs.org) runs its own crashworthiness testing and TOP SAFETY PICK awards. Confirm the exact 2026 result for your trim, since ratings can shift by model year and equipment. Every new Elantra includes Hyundai SmartSense driver-assistance features standard.

Where is Dalton Hyundai located?

3150 National City Blvd, National City, CA 91950. Convenient to San Diego, Chula Vista, El Cajon, Kearny Mesa, and Imperial Beach, right off I-5.

Can I test drive a 2026 Elantra on a Sunday?

Yes. Our sales department is open Sunday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Contact us ahead of time to have a specific Elantra ready.

What do you offer for ongoing maintenance?

Service and parts are on-site at the same National City location. We honor Hyundai's recommended service schedule, run the Dalton VIP Advantage Program for buy-and-service customers, and include a complimentary In-Drive Alignment Check and Tire Check on every visit.

Is Dalton Hyundai a trustworthy dealership?
